Good morning, my love!
We just got back from an early morning physical therapy appointment. You ate and went to bed straight away upon our return. That was a lot of work so early in the day!
Your PT is so very nice. I am really thankful that we have so many nice people to visit with.
She did an assessment of your development, paying close attention to your torticollis and muscle tone. Your PT said that your torticollis seemed to be resolving but gave us some extra tips and exercises/activities to do to help it and prevent it from tightening up again.
She also showed us some ways to help you sit and learn to put pressure on your feet for standing. I am very excited to work on these things during the day.
Lastly, she measured the difference in the size of your left side of your head in comparison to the right. She said the difference was about 10 mm which is considered moderate plagiocephaly. According to the handout she provided, "plagiocephaly is a condition in which a child's head is not shaped correctly." She said that she felt a 3 months or so of wearing a helmet would be beneficial and allow us to get your head shaped correctly. Not only is it for cosmetic purposes, but if uncorrected, fitting for sport and other helmets as well as glasses could be problematic, as well as putting you at higher risk for jaw issues like TMJ. It's a good thing your OT was able to catch it a few weeks ago and point us in the direction we needed to go to help resolve this issue. I have your helmet fitting all set up in a few weeks and you will have it a two weeks after that. The PT said those few weeks would allow you some extra time to strengthen your neck muscles which, in turn, should be helpful once you are wearing a heavy helmet on your head all the time. Thankfully, you do get 1 hour of helmet-lessness each day to bathe and just get some air to that noggin of yours.
You did a great job at your appointment today and I am feeling really good about the progress you make every day.
